Leading Edge Displays Installs Indoor LED Display in Spring High School's Cafeteria

Spring High School utilizes LED display to enhance morning announcements and increase school spirit.

Leading Edge Displays is installing a high definition, indoor LED display in the cafeteria of Spring High School in Houston Texas. Principals Pat Carey and Hannibal Trent originally came up with the idea of having an HD-like television screen that will correspond with the morning announcements each day. After Leading Edge Displays installed a full color outdoor LED display for the marquee sign in front of the school, the Principals wanted to know if they had any LED displays that could be used for indoor use. Curtis Cavazos, the Assistant General Manager at Leading Edge Displays, recommended a 5" x 8" high definition LED display that's specifically designed for indoor viewing. After consulting with the principals as well as some of the operations coordinators for the Spring School District, they agreed that the LED display would work great in the cafeteria, about 20 feet up.

Leading Edge Display's content designer Amanda Schultz has been working closely with Communications Teacher Renee Crowell, who is going to be in charge of all the graphical content that's displayed on the sign. Crowell had been in charge of creating videos with some of the theatre arts students that would promote ethical standards throughout the school's halls. Now, they have a gigantic LED display screen to showcase these videos and skits. Crowell came up with the idea that they can play these videos in the morning when the students are congregating in the cafeteria, as well as during lunch. The other times the sign will display the school's upcoming sporting events, theater plays, and other advertising venues such as how to order a school yearbook. Now students can check out the massive LED display in the cafeteria to find out what time the Student Council meeting is or where the football team is playing next.

This LED display will be constantly updated each day with the school's announcements. The amount of pictures, videos, and animation that can be viewed on these LED displays are literally endless. Nestled in the mountains of northern Georgia, in the town of Hiawassee right off of highway 76, sits Cafe Portofino; a quaint yet intimate restaurant where you can enjoy fresh, mouthwatering dishes while overlooking beautiful Lake Chatuge on its candlelit balcony. The Cafe's unique menu offers delectable appetizers, salads, freshly made soup du' jours, Italian-influenced entrees, and a delicious array of seafood, steaks, chops, and more. This little cafe really does have it all.

Despite all of the cafe's wonderful attributes, owner Ken Merritt still had the precarious task of getting its restaurant noticed since it's quasi-hidden in the Shoppes at Fieldstone off of Dogwood Lane as you drive by highway 76. They already had a sign, along with 6 other businesses in a pylon-type structure. The problem was, just like the restaurant itself, was that their sign was relatively hidden among the other businesses signs. Owner Ken Merritt, in an effort to increase the number of customers coming in, decided to call Leading Edge Displays in Houston, Texas, to see if a bright, illuminated LED display would help his situation. One of Leading Edge's business development specialists, whose name is ironically Merritt Lawn, helped Ken create a customized on-site marketing advertising plan specifically designed to boost customer revenue for the restaurant. They restructured the existing pylon by adding a 5' by 10' static sign, along with a 5’ by 10’ full color LED display underneath it that would showcase the restaurant's products, events, and new menu items continuously, even when the restaurant was closed.

Once the LED display was installed, Ken instantly noticed a difference. The last two Fridays and Saturdays were record nights for the restaurant. People driving by on highway 76 can't help but turn their heads to look at the dazzling full color LED display that's continuously streaming high definition pictures and videos of house favorite items like Lobster Ravioli, Chicken Marsala and their specialty, Filet Mignon. More and more of these drivers were turning into Ken's customers, knowing that they could come in and enjoy a great meal with a nice glass of wine while overlooking breathtaking Lake Chatuge. Ken even admitted that people were now coming in saying that they never even knew the restaurant existed at all, even though they've been in business for 2 years. When asked what he attributes the restaurant's recent success to, Ken says, "I don't know how much of it relates to that new LED display, but we have had record nights since we put it up." When asked again if he thought it was just a coincidence, Ken jokingly admits, "okay, it's not really a coincidence."

Times are tough these days. Especially for business owners like Harold Hebson, who owns three Pit Pros automotive lubrication shops. His shops offer a variety of products: from state inspections to fuel injection cleaning, as well as your standard oil changes. They also do transmission, radiator, and brake flushing. With all these services, Harold was now faced with the daunting task of how to advertise and market his Pit Pros shops. He used to have a couple ads in the Yellowpages but they proved to be very costly and with internet search engines like Google and Bing, these costly ads were becoming more and more ineffective.

Harold decided to take a different course of action.
